Average Rate Of Malpractice Insurance For Nurses? |
So I want to be a nurse and I was wondering how much it costs. And do most nurses have it or not? Also I live in TX and will be a nurse here so any info will be appreciated thanks :)
| Answer: When I graduated from Nursing school, malpractice insurance was not mandatory in my state. We were encouraged to get though and back then it was considered expensive at $55 a year, Now expect to pay a lot more, Almost $200 In my state. I don't know about other states. The reason is so many people are sue happy. They loose jobs, loose homes, or can't pay their bills and when all else fails, sue. I hate it. I've never been sued for anything but some of my colleagues were for what I believed to be false accusations. I worked with these nurses and never was there abuse or neglect. It was awful. Same for Dr's. You have these creepy lawyers on TV telling people to sue for anything and everything. |

I am looking for comprehensive coverage...I want to be able to choose my attorney and do not want a cap on hourly rate...The company I am with now does not offer this. I know it is expensive: however, I feel it is best in the long run. Thanks for your help.

| Answer: That "choose your attorney" thing is what's going to kill you. I can't think of any policy that will let you choose your brother as your attorney, who charges $50,000 an hour. I think you're out of luck. Every policy that I've seen that LETS you choose your attorney, by the way, not only costs in the five figures, but has defense costs WITHIN the policy limit - meaning, the more your attorney costs, the quicker your claim limit is reached - meaning the more likely that you'll go to court with NO attorney. So rethink your requirements . .. |
