I was thinking about selling car insurance in michigan and opening my own business but I found out you needed a license to do so. How do i do this and is it hard. Is the nsurance business a good or bad business to get into?
Answer: You need to do a prelicensing exam. They offer self study or you can take a class that is about 40 hours and it's done in all one week. I got my license about 6 years ago and the test is not easy. You take a Property & Casulty test, it not only deals with car but also home and commercial lines. Car insurance sales is very volitale. I have a study book to study by myself for my Michigan Insurance Agent License, but I really need to learn this stuff in a "structured" format such as having to take exams and submit them online. I just can't find the right website or type in the right combination of words.

I'm in Virginia for a little bit and possibly buying a car. I have a Michigan drivers license and insurance out of Michigan. Would I be able to use Michigan insurance on a virginia plated car until I go back to Michigan. I'm not in the military.
Answer: In Virginia, to purchase license plates or decals, you must certify that the vehicle is covered by the minimum insurance requirements or pay the uninsured motor vehicle fee. Your insurance carrier must be authorized to conduct business in Virginia. Virginia requires the following minimum coverage:
◦Bodily injury/death of one person: $25,000
◦Bodily injury/death of two or more persons: $50,000
◦Property damage: $20,000
