I Want To Build A Career As An Insurance Underwriter, Where Do I Start?

Hi guys,
As it says in the title I want to build a career as an insurance underwriter but i have no clue where to start. Are there any out there? Any and all advice will be greatly received!

Thanks in advance!

P.S I am in the United Kingdom, i don't know whether the path i would take would differ between countries so could you please state where you are, thanks again.

Answer: My ex husband is an underwriter.Sorry i can't ask him what his exact qualifications he has as i don't want to talk to him.
However, i do know he doesn't have a degree,he only had a couple of O ' Levels when he started out.
He started out 18 years ago practically as the tea boy at Royal & Sun Alliance. He's now senior management,he's done a lot of training courses with them ( He now works for AXA),and has studied for more qualifications throughout his career.

Can Someone With A Business Degree Become An Insurance Underwriter?

There are several large insurance companies in my town. I have a bachelors degree in management with an HR focus. I took several general business courses and took an insurance course. I also have basic knowledge of insurance through my HR courses and my 3 months at my current HR job. I want to become an underwriter and was wondering if someone with a business degree could get into the field? A friend who works at a large insurance firm says yes it's very possible. Any comments?

Answer: Very possible. Brush up your resume and go to it.
Good luck.

Where Do I Find A Insurance Underwriter?

im looking for a insurance underwriter to hire his services for a couple of months part time, but i don't know where to find one. any kind of LOB is fine. its for consulting purposes. i tried monster without any luck.

any ideas?

im in Fort Lauderdale but any where in the tri-county area would work.

Answer: You could always go to a local headhunter that specializes in insurance - recruiters. Or, you could put an add in the local paper.

You could also call your local agent association (www.iiaa.org) see if they know anyone who'd be available for part time work.

What Is The Difference Between An Insurance Underwriter & Mortgage Underwriter?

Besides the obvious companies they work for, what is sold, policies and that one offers insurance and one offers loans....
IS there work tasks and procedures essentially closely related? Which is in higher demand for employment, which has less turn over rates, which pays more?

Answer: The tasks are completely different because the products are completely different, so the procedures must be different.

These days, there's more call for insurance underwriters, because the housing sales market has fallen. Additionally, since Obama is talking about making it illegal for banks to foreclose, the natural result of that, is that they'll flat out stop making mortgages, as no one will have ANY incentive to pay their mortgage!! And the housing market will further fall.

What To Expect When The Insurance Underwriter Inspects Your Home?

After 28 years in my home, I got a notice that the insurance company is sending someone out to photograph, measure and report back on my house. What should I expect? If they come up with a punch list of things to repair, can you dispute any of it?

Answer: They come out to look for anything that may be a source of loss. Does your roof need to be replaced? Is there frayed wiring? Do your steps show signs that they may cause a fall? Is the sidewalk cracked? Are trees hanging over property?

They will probably measure your home to ensure you are covered adequately. Most companies use many factors to determine how much you need to be insured for. If you have not raised your coverage in 28 years, I would say you would be grossly underinsured.

They also look for things done right that could give you discounts. Have you cleared your brush for fire hazards? Have you strapped your water heater to the wall? Do you
