I live in Denmark, I would like to find a UK insurance company that I can get a policy from to cover my household contents here. Any ideas, I have tried some of the bigger companies in the UK any ideas
thanks

Answer: I doubt you will get a UK based insurer to insure a house in Denmark. If they will accept the risk, it will probably cost more than a local insurer, or the policy may be designed to cover say holiday lets, rather than owner occupier.
What Influences You To Buy Home Insurance In The UK?
Question by Anoop 22mUK | Posted in Insurance
I am doing a university dissertation on home insurance in the UK domestic market. I would like to understand why people buy or dont buy home insurance? What are your attitudes and how do you purchase it?
Answer: Having worked in Insurance for many years I think that when people don't have home insurance it is a money issue - they take the chance that they won't have a big loss and that saves them x number of pounds a year.
I was insured through a major insurer for about 15 years - reasonable rates, so we renewed with them each year. Then we had a claim and the service was terrible. I have now changed to another insurer but won't know what their service is like unless we have another claim. I am in the lucky position of not having to watch every penny that I spend, so for me the service is more important than the cost (within reason).
Is It Compulsory By Law In Uk To Get Home Insurance Before Moving Into New Rented House?
Question by yellowIrisFlower | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I am moving into a new house that is rented in Cambridge uk.It is a house share with one more person.
Is it compulsory by law to get home insurance before I move into this house?
Also, if anyone is aware of any good home insurance can you guide me please?
Many thanks
Answer: No, it is not compulsory.
It is entirely up to you, since they are your belongings in the house, and if they are stolen or damaged then it's your loss.
I am in the UK and have home contents insurance. My back external door is the responsibility of the Council, who i rent the house from.It is a very bad defective door, has a square type box lock on it and a big gap around the edges. where it could be prised open, it has been kicked in.
Would i still be covered with insurance if someone broke in via this door ? It is a shed type door.
I cant afford to replace the door myself.
Thanks.
Thanks everyone, i will send them a letter, they did come out in april last year, but said it was adequate, at the time i was waiting overa month and using a door bolt only to lock the door, they said this was adequate.
many thanks
Answer: You need to read the small print on your policy, look for minimum security requirements that might speify a certin type of lock, usuallly a 5 level mortice deadlock in addition to a normal lock.
Also check that you have not applied for any secruity discount that says you have said locks.
I would still nag the council, sending them a letter that you will hold them responsible for any loss that you incure should access to your home be gained through this inadquate door.
one of my friends filled in a form asking for permission for an extention on his house. on the form it asked when the house was built and he wrote 1940, when in relaity the house is over 100 years old. he only realised yesterday and doesn't know what to do...
hes worried just incase he rings and tells the company that he wrote the details wrong and they terminate the extention.. help!
Answer: Well, you posted on the USA board, so you get a USA answer.
Yes, they could, because that's "material misrepresentation". But it doesn't do any good to wait until the claim comes along, because THEN they'll be able to deny the claim under the same clause.
Might as well ring them up, and try to straighten it out, while there's still time to get coverage, BEFORE the claim happens.
