If The Current System Is So Great, Why Are So Many Small Businesses Dropping Healthcare Coverage?
Question by 12-25 Never Forget | Posted in Politics
"About 10% of small businesses are considering eliminating coverage over the next year, up from 3% in 2005, according to a recent survey by National Small Business Association.
That follows earlier declines in coverage, with just 38% of small businesses providing health insurance last year compared to 61% in 1993... In 2007, 41% offered coverage... 19% of all companies plan to stop providing health-care benefits in the next three to five years..."

(((Tubby))) & (((Sawyer))): "...38% of small businesses providing health insurance >>>LAST YEAR<<< compared to 61% in 1993..."
Answer: Because they are brining in less money due to the economy...not because they suddenly decided they didn't like the care.
I think we do need some kind of reform...but not whats in the works now.
edit. The economic down fall began last year, smart guy. It hit some company's sooner than others. Um, where did I say the economy was fine last year?

Should Congress Pass Bush's Health Care Proposal From Last Night?
Question by Brad | Posted in Politics
Here's the transcript of his health care plan from last night's State of the Union:
"BUSH: So I propose ending the bias in the tax code against those who do not get their health insurance through their employer. This one reform would put private coverage within reach for millions, and I call on the Congress to pass it this year. Congress must also expand health savings accounts, create association health plans for small businesses, promote health information technology and confront the epidemic of junk medical lawsuits."
Obviously, other proposals (such as Universal Healthcare) cannot realistically be achieved until after the election (if Congress sent
Answer: By bias in the tax code I suppose he is referencing the fact that in employee health plans the amount they pay insurance premiums is not taxed as income.
It would be fair enough to allow those who pay for their own health insurance out of pocket the same consideration.
However, it will not do nearly enough to make health coverage affordable for the great mass of the uninsured.
Likewise, health savings accounts are great IF you can afford to put the money aside, but they are only really practical for fixed, expected health care cost and no substitute for coverage.
And there he goes again with tort reform; lawsuits are not a major factor
So Why Are The Big Health Insurers Against Canadian Style Health Insurance?
Question by Jim Bowie | Posted in Other - General Health Care
The following story was posted in AP News today. My question is if insurers don't want an Obama Healthcare System that is socialized and a far cry from the "Best medical system in the world", then why are insurers content to send the insured overseas for "knee-replacements" and "heart by-pass" operations? I'm for Obama's plan and KEEPING AMERICAN JOBS HERE !!! (i.e. doctors, nurses and support staff). Screw the insurance companies as they have us for so long !
