To Qualify As Classic/vintage (when It Comes To Motor Tax/insurance), How Old Does A Vehicle Need To Be?

Answer: The words "classic" and "vintage" have no meaning in law. This is because there is no legal definition for either word, when applied to motor vehicles.

For a vehicle to be regarded as a "classic" by an insurance company however, will depend on that company's own policy. Some will allow a vehicle over 15 years old to be included on a "classic" policy, others may insist that it has to be over 30 years old.

There is no such thing as a "classic" road tax class, either. The 'Historic Vehicle' taxation class applies to any vehicle built before January 1st, 1973. Vehicles taxed as such, do not have to pay V.E.D., but

Motor Bike Insurance To Claim Or Not?

ok my bike was stolen and pretty badly damaged
its a 1994 classic honda fireblade 38000 miles and was in pretty good conditon
in my estimate it would cost over £2000 to get it back to how it was like new
or around £700 from places like ebay but look like cr ap
or claim on my insurance
but i have 8 years no claims £198 tpft
£450 excess
what would i get if i claimed ?

how much would my insurance go up by?

i think they would write bike of as unrepairable

Answer: In the US, my insurance would not go up because they pay out for a stolen vehicle, vandalism or non at fault accidents - only for excessive claims or claim due an at fault accident.

Which Motor Scooter Is Right For Me?

I want something highway legal because I will be transferring schools soon and need to go to and from. I am a resident of Georgia. I will be using my car only for long distance trips probably. I really like the classic designs like the Genuine Scooter, Stella. I need to know if I need a motorcycle license and roughly how much insurance is (or at least where to find good quotes).
I also would like to know what to go about first. - License, purchasing, insurance.

Answer: I have progressive insurance as they were the lowest here. I would call around. Another is Dairy Land. I would suggest that before buying the Stella look at Kymco they are priced right and rated higher than all of your Japanese brands. The people style they make as a nice classic look to them. you would want at least 150cc.

Classic Car As A Daily Driver In Michigan?

I'm a hot rod & kustom guy, have building and restoring old cars for awhile now..love the looks of em and the feeling I get driving them, I'm opening up my own shop soon too. I drive a 2001 Grand Am GT and it's about to die 190,000 miles needs tires, brakes, bearings, engines making noises but for the price I paid and miles I put on it, it worked well. Now I need a new daily drive to school 72 miles round trip 2-3 times a week. I live in Michigan, was wondering what it would be like to drive an classic car as a daily...say a 1958 Chevy Bel Air with a 283 motor...the insurance is cheaper, easier to fix and find parts..but may be more in gas...just wondering if anyone drives a classic everyday

Answer: Hey! I understand the need to drive a classic every day. When I bought my Dart Swinger, the original goal was to use it for a daily driver.

Unfortunately, the classic/antique insurance requirement for limited miles and for using the vehicle for recreation purposes/car shows put that idea away. I checked with all the major classic car insurance companies and they all have the same restrictions. I can drive just under 2000 miles per year. Can't drive the car as a commuter; had to show full insurance on a "real" daily driver. Mine is a 2000 Grand Prix with 130K miles. By the way I have full coverage classic insurance on my Dart at $211 per year so it sounds like you are

Are Classic Muscle Cars Really Outdated For Racing?

Ok so my dad has a Friend who was a long time Mechanic and now works for a Car Insurance company and he still builds custom cars. He currently has a 2000s BMW M3 turbo, and a 07 Mustang. I have a 56 Chevy project car that needs a new transmission and has a not very used 350(its a crate motor) the motor is in good shape, but it need a needs a new transmission and of course the interior needs work. Anyway my dad, him and I were talking and he was asking me so are you going to make it into a show car? I said no I want it to be a drag car, hopefully one day a pro street car. He said that I should get a new mustang or save my money and get a BMW one day if I was going to do that. He said that my Chevy

Answer: He's an idiot.
Next time you talk to him, ask him when was the last time he saw a 6 second pro stock M3.

For drag racing, there is no replacement for displacement.
Mustangs do make great drag cars, and typically, there are more mustangs on dragstrips around the country than any other car, both old and new.

As for his comment that his BMW is so fast, remind him that it's a great weekend road course car, but in a straight line, it's mediocre at best. Solid axles are best for drag racing, and that BMW doesn't have that. His BMW is only a 6 cylinder at 3.2L displacement. Stock form, it will run mid-low 13s. That's the same as m 4.6L V8 mustang.
