Personal And Public Liability Insurance - Is It Possible To Get A Combined Policy?
Question by Antony G | Posted in Insurance
I'm about to set up a small sole trader business in the UK making furniture and I am going to be moving into a small industrial unit which I will be renting. I have been advised by the people who are renting out the unit that I need to get personal and public liability insurance. I have done a few searches on the internet but I can't see any companies that have a combined policy. In other words it seems I have to get two seperate insurance policies for personal and public insurance. Is this right? Or is it the case that public liability also includes personal liability.
Answer: OK, I filter to US Only questions (not english only) and this came up, so I'm guessing that maybe you're not going to get many UK answers.
Here in the US, and most of the rest of the world, it's true - there are TWO different kinds of liability - personal, and business. "Public" is a misnomer - public can be either personal, or business. Or maybe it's just a UK way to say 'business'.
But, you CANNOT combine the two. The rating basis and coverages are WILDLY divergent. Business liability does NOT include personal liability, but it DOES extend coverage, to some extent, over employees IN THE COURSE OF EMPLOYMENT. With exclusions, of course.
How Do I Get Public Liability Insurance For A 2 Day Film Shoot?
Question by Tom Butcher | Posted in Insurance
I am a director of a newly established video production company. We are shooting a live Jazz festival in Birmingham and will require public liability insurance. However the quotes I have found only insure annually ans are way out of our current price range. How/where can I get public liability insurance for 2 days?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: You're using the wrong agents.
You need to try some more INDEPENDENT agents. There ARE places where you can buy a "one shot" production policy, that would include all sorts of different types of liability - besides public - that you might need, to distribute or air your piece.
Production coverage, though, even for a "one shot" is going to run you a minimum premium of $2500. You can pack a lot of coverage into that, though, adding on for a camera/lights package if you need to rent, or trademark/infringment coverage, or editing access, etc.
The truth is, it's not much more expensive for a year policy, than it is for a one shot.
What Is Employers Liability And Public Liability Insurance In UK?
Question by ukquestioner | Posted in Insurance
What is employers liability and public liability insurance?
How much does they usually cost?
Are both of them cover all employees?
Do I need to buy per employee?
Thanks!
Answer: Employers liability insurance protects your employees against injury, death etc in the workplace. If they sue you, the insurer pays out. Public liability is the same sort of thing, but protects members of the public who visit your premises.
The cost depends on the size of your premises, the type of business you carry out, any safety and security measures you have in place, the number of employees, etc.
A surveyor from the insurance company will usually visit your premises and do a risk assessment, and the insurer will charge you based on how high he feels the risk is.
Yes, it is compulsory as you are legally obliged to protect your employees. One
How Do I Get Public Liability Insurance For The Studio I Am Renting For A Workspace?
Question by mindlessmalk | Posted in Insurance
I am renting a studio in a large mill building. The studios for rent are for business purposes only, not for residential purposes. I need to be covered for $1,000,000 public liability insurance according to my lease. I have been searching around, but it seems i can only find regular renters insurance, which is mainly for renting a place where you live. I don't really know much about insurance, so any information would be helpful.
Thanks!
Nate

Answer: Go to the Yellow pages under the heading "Insurance." Look for agents who sell commercial general liability insurance.
