MY mother passed away in February 2006 and I cannot find the insurance policies to determine if my brother and I are beneficiaries.
Answer: I'm so sorry for your loss. What a terrible time to have to even think about an insurance matter. Here's my advice:
1) If you mom was working, call her employer and ask whether she purchased group insurance there; if she was retired, ask her employer if she had life insurance when employed and get the name of the insurer. Then contact the insurer to see if she converted the coverage to an individual policy;
2) Check her bank statements and cancelled checks for at least the past year to see if she was making any electronic or check payments to an insurer;
3) Contact EACH of her creditors (mortgate company, car financing company, credit card(s), etc.) and ask whether

I am going to get a prescription for birth control pills, but I am still part of my mother's health insurance plan. I have my own health insurance card, though. I was wondering if the policy holder (my mother) will find out that our health insurance plan was used towards the birth control pills I am going to get.
My mother is EXTREMELY religious, and would be angry at me if she found out. I have a long-term boyfriend, and want to be safe and take precautions, though. Help!
Answer: Depending on the type of insurance you have, she may get a copy of the explanation of benefits from the doctor appointment.
She won't know about the prescription, unless you tell her, or she finds it.
Keep in mind, several things: 1. the pill works as an abortificant. It aborts babies. Just in case YOU have any religious qualms about that sort of thing. 2. when used exactly as directly, there's a 2% annual failure rate. 3. the way MOST girls use it, the actual annual "failure" rate is 5% - that means 5 out of 100 sexually active girls will remain pregnant ANYWAY. Answer: If you paid by direct debit, then get a back dated bank statement from the bank (choose a month in the year that you definitely knew you made a direct debit payment.) Once you have found the name of the company you can contact them and ask them for an update. If it is an endowment type policy, even though you haven't paid any payments within the last few years, they will have frozen the policy, but it is still worth money to you and you don't have to pay any missed payments. It just means that you will no longer have the privilege of life cover with that policy as that part of the policy will have been cancelled due to the non payments.

Answer: Absolutely, there's a way, as long as the policy was still in force.
Life insurance companies change names and go out of business and merge ALL THE TIME. When a company goes out of business, the policy gets transerred to ANOTHER life insurance company in that state.
You can check with your state insurance commissioner, to see which new company was assigned to take over that policy.
Or, you can repost the question, in much greater detail, with the exact NAME of the original issuing company, and the state the policy was issued in, and someone here might be able to look it up.
