I currently do not have renters insurance, but am looking into getting some (I've gotten several quotes so far and it doesn't look like it would be more than 20-40 dollars a month). I would like to adopt an American Pit Bull Terrier in the next six months or so and was wondering if anybody knew how much it would be to add "Dog Bite Protection" or whatever it might be called to a policy. I know that having a Canine Good Citizenship Award or getting them certified as therapy dogs will lower the amount. But nobody ever says how much.
Answer: A Pit Bull Terrier is not the same thing as a Pit Bull. However they do retain an increased propensity for aggression, and also retain some of the Pit Bull's tendency to attack others unpredictably, in many cases after years with no problems.
It is doubtful that anybody who will read your answer will have ever bought insurance for a Pit Bull Terrier, so the only way to know is to get a quote from one or more insurance companies. They will probably be slightly concerned given the behavioral pedigree of this particular breed of dog, but they ARE in the insurance business: it's their business to insure risks.
Where Can I Get "dog Bite" Insurance In Florida?
Question by elissaszoo | Posted in Dogs
I am trying to qualify for the rental of a townhouse in Broward County, Florida. I have 3 dogs, a rottie, a shepard mix and a pug. I've been told I must obtain renters insurance that will include my dogs in case they bite someone. I can't find ANYONE to cover the Rottiweiler! Is there anyone out there that can steer me in the right direction? PLEASE HELP! I need to have this done like yesterday or I will lose out on the townhouse. Thank you for any help!
Answer: Good luck a lot of insurance companies will not cover you due to the Rottie.
What Insurance Companies Will Insure A Dog In California With A Prior Bite History?
Question by jjmiller2988 | Posted in Dogs
My two dogs were involved in a fight with another dog last year. All three dogs were bitten, and my homeowners' insurance paid out a claim. They have now sent a notice of non-renewal and I am having trouble finding an insurance company that will write a new policy. Does anyone have any suggestions for an insurance company or broker in California that can help? Thank you!
Let me clarify this question. I was walking both of my dogs when we passed a small dog who lunged at my dogs. It scared my smaller dog, who lunged back. The situation escalated, and all three of them got into a fight that lasted about 20 seconds before we could pull them apart. The other owner submitted vet bills
Answer: Good luck with that! I had enough trouble getting insurance with dogs that have never bitten.
Can My Steps Sons Father Sue My Homeowners Insurance For A Dog Bite His Son Got? My Wife Has Custody.?
Question by ME | Posted in Family
My step son lives here, was bit by our dog, the dog was put down and all cost have been paid. There are no longterm problems with my stepson. As far as me and the wife are concerned its already taken care of but his dad who he does not live with and does not have custody is trying to sue our homeowners policy.
Answer: It's a free country, and anyone can sue anyone, but I would think any reasonable judge/jury would see this as a "money for nothing" opportunity. If no harm was done to the father, then what grounds does he have to sue?
Should My Insurance, BlueCross/BlueShield Pay For A Dog Bite Injury Which Happened At Someone Elses House?
Question by Kester | Posted in Insurance
My son was bitten by a dog at our friend's house. My insurance, BC/BS, will not pay for the injury to be treated claiming that our friend's 'Homeowners" insurance should pay for it. However our friend's are renters and have NO insurance, and NO money. Am I going to have to pay for this myself out of pocket? I feel like my insuance company has abaondend me and my son. If my son was to get injured at my house (which has happened before) BC/BS would and has paid for it and not claimed that my homeowners insurance should pay for it. Any ideas on how to proceed? Suing our friends who have no money will only cost me money and result in getting zero from them.
Answer: Well, yes, and then THEY can sue your friend for reimbursement.
Your friend should have had RENTERS insurance, to cover the bite. If your insurance pays for the bite, then they WILL sue your friend - so without insurance, your friend will have to pay for this, or have his wages garnished forever until they get reimbursed. That subrogation clause IS their right, and it's in the health insurance policy.
It's HIGHLY unusual for an insurance company to say they won't pay. Have you told them he has no insurance? I'd tell them that, AND ask them to put the DECLINATION IN WRITING, so you can submit it to your state insurance commissioner for review.
