Ok, I have gone to those web sites that say 'instant quotes' and those only give me PPO plans, plus I end up getting calls from a bunch of different insurance sellers. I never knew getting health insurance without an employer was so difficult. I want an HMO plan that's not going to bust me every month. Any help or suggestions would be great, thanks

i live in new mexico and have been looking at health insurance plans to buy once my COBRA expires, but they all suck. can you buy into an hmo plan as individual (with spouse) or is it only avaialble to employees where the employers group plan is an HMO plan?

Which is better to have or is there another type of plan thats even better than those? Is there a specific type of company thats better. I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield now but want to switch to Aenta, but there are other options. I don't go to the doctor much, I'm a healthy 25 year old male with no medical problems. Whats the best kind of plan? I can also choose between a CHPA or an HHPA I believe is what they are called.

So a company just offered me a job and I came from a big corporation with great benefits, stock option plan, and a 401K. This job does not offer a 401k and the insurance plan is an HMO. Does anyone have any opinions on this? I don't know much about either, but both kind of turn me off...
Answer: If you are pretty healthy, an HMO isn't too bad, especially if its a low out of pocket HMO. I've had one now for 6 years. Its ok, because my family is young and healthy. There are lots of health centers near us as well. During this time I've had three kids, and each delivery had a maximum out of pocket of $500.
As for a 401K, they're nice, but right now, not a lot of companies can offer the matching. You can always have your own Roth IRA. Yes, you miss out on the matching funds from the employer, but you are still saving for your future.

I just got insurance for the first time and I've never gone to a doctor appointment alone before, without a parent so I'm not sure how it all works. I'm pregnant and found an OB that works with my insurance plan so will all the costs be covered? Or do I just not have to pay AS MUCH as I would without having insurance? I'm going to set up my first prenatal exam and I'm just wondering if any money will be coming out of my pocket
