I wanted to know general information about home warranties/applicance insurance. These basically cover the major systems and applicances in your home. I'm talking for a current unit owner, not for property sale.
- Are the firms generally reputable and do what they say?
- Who are the major players? I know of HMS and Sears Home Central.
- What should I look at when shopping for a home warranty?

Answer: I have had no personal experience, but my daughter purchased a home warranty policy and every time something went wrong, they tried to find a way not to pay for it. There were always some exceptions that caused the claim not to be payable. You need to be careful. Ask for names of clients you can contact to see how good they are.
Best Home Appliance Insurance?
Question by amhlallar | Posted in Insurance
need insurance for that has full coverage for home appliances, like ranges, refrigerators, washers, dryers, dish washers, etc.
Answer: Your best insurance for appliances is to learn as much as you can about each appliance and the reliability of each brand.
Consumer Reports magazine does this for you.
And, then, don't buy any appliances that perform poorly on their tests.
I always buy their top rated brands and have NEVER had any trouble.
When you buy an extended warranty or insurance, the loss ratio (the amount of claims made) is very low, so you are basically wasting your money.
Need Home Appliance Protection Insurance In Wisconsin?
Question by Diane L | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Answer: Contact any realitor with an inquiry about a "Home Warrantee" - essentially, these warrantees cover your home appliances. Be sure to read the fine print to determine what is covered.
I personally think this type of insurance is a huge rip-off. Basically, the vendor that the warantee company picks to service any claim gets a $100 deductable from you, and then proceeds to nickel and dime you for additional repair cost issues that are not covered by your warantee.
If your appliances are fairly new, you'll most like be contacted by the store where you bought them, or the manufacturer to purchase extended warantees. I think these aren't worth the money
Has Anyone Ever Purchased A Homeowners Appliance Insurance?
Question by g | Posted in Other - Home & Garden
I'm not talking about extended warranties on appliances but rather a company that sells insurance that covers every major appliances in the home such as refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, central air conditioning, etc regardless of the age of the appliance or home. If so can you please recommend a reputable company you've had a positive experience with?
Answer: AHS. We bought it for our rental property and our house. And it paid for itself time and time again. Costs approx. 300-400 dollars, and if something goes wrong, you make one phone call, and they set up the rest. You pay a 50 dollar deductible to the contractor that comes to fix it.
High Voltage By Edison Fried My Appliances. Does Home Insurance Pay For The Replacement Cost?
Question by tom | Posted in Insurance
Answer: How are we to know? Do you have replacement cost coverage on your homeowners policy? Do you have a voltage endorsement? The standard homeowners policy doesn't include replacement - you have to pay extra for it.
Also, the standard homeowners covers damage from artifically generated electrical currents, but NOT loss to tubes, transistors, or similar electronic components. Which, frankly, are MOST of where your damages are going to be.
