Are there any states which DON'T require auto insurance? If not, how is it that every state requires it? Surely the federal government must be requiring the states to require it?
And if that's OK, then why shouldn't health insurance be mandatory in the same way?
Some of you will say "only drivers are required to buy auto insurance, and driving is a privilege, not a requirement", but it sure seems like a requirement in today's America (unless you live in NYC or Washington DC - those are the ONLY American cities with half-decent public transportation).
In any case, in a wealthy, civilized society, basic health care should not be a privilege
Answer: No, all states do not require car insurance but they do require financial responsibility to operate a vehicle on the roadway. While not all states require drivers to buy Liability insurance to show financial responsibility, 49 states (plus the District of Columbia) do. New Hampshire is the only state that does not have compulsory auto insurance liability laws, as of June 2010.
I Need Auto Insurance!! Please Help?

ok So I don't have a job, and lived close to a metro stop in the DC area, and used to have a GF that I could borrow her car. During this time I do have a car, 1997 honda accord. I didn't have insruance on it for like 7 months, then went to state farm and got it at a good deal. Only to have them cancel it on me, I am in northern virginia. now state farm wants to charge me $200 just for liability insurance. I would like to get full coverage, however since i dont have a job, and dont use it much, not sure if thats a good idea. Just need a place that will offer legit prices.
this was $200 a month for liability, i have a good driving record and am 29, so for normal liability around
Answer: I'll tell ya what, I had kinda the same situation, but mine problem was my driving record and things piling up quick from the age of 16 through now 23. Anyways, State Farm, whom I loved, cancelled my policy (nice people)! So, I too had to find a new auto insurer quickly! I found many different companies, but found from reviews and everything that many treated claims horribly, as most insurance obviously does. So, I went with the least of evils which was Progressive. Although I hate the Progressive insurance owner, they are a good company and give you exactly what they say. In the situation you get in an accident, they pay responsibly to both you and your victim or the other party in the
I recently purchased auto insurance from a certain company. while given them my info, i told them i only drive 3miles to work. However i recently changed jobs and now i have to travel about 15 miles to work. Also i live in maryland and i have to drive to dc once a week which is like a 50 mile drive. Do i need to contact my insurance company and tell them my new development or do i just tell them that my estimated annual mileage will increase. Also, will my rates go up?
Answer: It depends on how honest you want to be. If the distance you drive to work changes, your premiums may increase since you're now a higher risk. So......you could be honest and tell them now, or wait until a customer review comes along and see if they ask.
Since your asking for our opinions, I'll give you mine. I think you should call them and report the change. I believe that lying by omission is still lying. And you never know, they might say that the mileage increase is still not enough to bump your premiums up. Then you can rest your head easily at night and still pay the same amount in insurance.
Should The US Government Take Our Tax $ To Give One Company Owned By Foreigners, Unfair Advantage Over Another?
Question by Yogi | Posted in Politics
The US government is giving Chrysler money to buy old cars for $4500 towards the sale of a new Chrysler. Chrysler already took many billions of $$, foreign interests have pretty much been given a huge chunk of the company and certain politicians supporters more of it.
This will hurt Ford's business, a company who stayed afloat taking None of our money at a time when things have been very hard for them.
Isn't this extremely twisted and wrong? Not to mention taking our money to just give away to individuals who got part of the company for nothing, but being political ally's, and others for supporting one business over another because of cheaper prices paid for by
Answer: It is absolutely unconstitutional. The duties of the Federal government are laid out and they are not to push outside of those limits. Obama is an enemy to the constitution, but it's not just democrats. There is a conspiracy to set up an Oligarchy by and for a cabal of Ivy League graduates and many of the extremely rich in the world, like George Soros, you need to really check his record. Convicted in Europe for currency manipulations and booted out of more than one country. He is the tip of the ice burg from Europe, and there are middle eastern interest, Oriental interests and billionaires from all over the world who are beyond laws and borders you will NEVER hear about.

I am 25, rented a car from AVIS, and was in an accident.
I declined all of AVIS insurance options, because the credit card I used has: Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver.
I had an accident (BOO!).
It was the fault of the other driver, but because of the state it happened in, WASHINGTON DC, the police were not able to file a report.
I am wondering what will happen next.
The damage to the rental car was very minimal, and will be covered by my credit card company. But what about the damage to the other car?
The car was insured, and the person driving it also had their own car insurance (as it was not their
Answer: Once again, insurance goes with vehicles, not drivers for the most part. When you rent a car from a rental company, it is covered under their insurance. You have the option of getting additional coverage that covers things that are your fault, basically collision coverage. SInce it was not your fault, the person at fault will be covering it.
And regardless of state, the police can file a report after an accident.
