Why UK Car Insurance Is Much More Expensive When Comparing With Any Other EU Country?

For example, to insure the vehicle in UK I'd need to pay about £2500, but abroad I'll pay maximum of £400 for the same vehicle with same specs. and all the data about me. What is the reason that UK insurance companies charge so much?

O.k so Im a new driver and bought a car and signed up with insurance which worked out about £60 a month. My car broke down beyond repair and I have suspended my insurance as had to scrap the car. Now I been on car insurance websites to compare many different cars to see which is cheapest and all my other details are same but no matter what car details i put (different ages/ values) but all small cars similar to my last vehicle the quote comes up double the cost at over £110. Why is this ?
By the way I made no claim against the car
No I had just passed my test when taking out my insurance now 4 months on and only had my first car for 6 weeks before it broke ( Got a bad deal from

Answer: My daughter's car was waiting to go for scrappage and as it was not running well she just kept it off the road.
But we left the insurance running and did not cancel it until a new policy had been taken out as did not want to lose the Protected No Claims and the associated history.

We were advised that this was the best way to do it. But in the two months of looking for an alternative insurance company the prices went up considerably. The media and the press said they were really not into insuring new drivers any more.

it seems the monthly prices right now have increased a lot compared to the prices last month. do the companies do this on purpose?
well nothing on my end has changed, that's why i'm confused...

Answer: It might be because of all the floods we've had. Cars being wrote off.
It also depends how old you are and the car you trying to insure.
If you have lost your "no claims bonus" that could shoot up your insurance

Where Can I Find Reasonably Priced Car Insurance For A 17 Male?

I am 16 years old, soon to be 17 and am looking for a reasonable car insurance quote. I am aware that being male and 17 both work against me in this situation, however the best quote I have found so far was with eCar at gocompare.com for £2340. I am thinking of getting a cheap 1996 Vauxhall Corsa as this has been the cheapest to insure when comparing quotes.

I have tried Directline, gocompare, comparethemarket, moneysupermarket, tesco compare, insurance.co.uk, confused.com, uswitch.com, and beatthatquote.com.

I really need something lower than what I have found so far, if you have any suggestions they would be greately appreciated.

Answer: - Lower the engine size, nothing over 1.2L - that will make a difference.
- Make sure you do Pass Plus (some insurance companies give a third off the price if you have this)
- Where you keep it over night will make a difference too - if it's in a locked garage rather than on the street/driveway, this will help lower the premium.
- Don't go for a car with modifications (lowered, spoiler, alloy wheels, fat exhaust etc) this would all go against you.

Could you ask your parents to insure it in their name and be on as a named driver?

Is Young Driver Insurance Cheaper In UK Or US?

I live in the UK and my insurance premium for my first year of driving is £1800. Not bad I realize to say that I am 17. So im just wanting to compare what prices other people in UK and US pay for their car insurance?

Answer: it depends a lot on their coverages, which state they live in, and their gender and grades.

Here in Houston, TX, an 18 year old boy with his own car, minimum liability, would pay $3,000 a year USD.
