What Do You Think About Pet Health Insurance?

My older bully (only 2 years old) has really bad allergies and we have recently had to pay about 1000 dollars for allergy tests and allergy shots. We are worried about the new puppy (3 months old) because of his probs. I am wondering whether it is cost effective to get insurance for her. I looked up the AKC insurance and the complete package was about 55 dollars per month.

Answer: It may be difficult to get pet insurance that will cover your older bully's allergies. This would likely be considered a "pre-existing condition" that would probably be excluded. It would be worth it to check before buying a policy.

It should be okay to get a policy that will cover the puppy as he has not had the allergies yet, and thus wouldn't be excluded. It would be worthwhile to check with the insurance company you choose to see if there would be any problems with the coverage.

It's really worth taking some time and shopping around before you buy a policy. Many companies offer policies that have different types of coverage. The last thing you

What Is The Best Dog Insurance?

Hi, I'm shopping for pet insurance for my dog. He is about 4 months old, with no pre-existing conditions. The insurance has to cover his routine check-ups and vaccinations, of course, AND I want it to cover accidents and illnesses. (Cancer.. You know.) If the idea is good enough, I would get two different plans, or an additional rider for one plan. I've been looking around and I've noticed these

Banfield: Pet Insurance
VPI: Pet Insurance
AKC: Pet Healthcare Plan
and
Pet Care: Pet Insurance

I'm not lazy; I have looked through the policies and received quotes. Now I would just like some honest reviews from people who have used these services.

Answer: Here's a great site with customer reviews for each company. http://www.petinsurancereview.com/
All of the companies you listed got pretty crappy reviews. I went with Petplan and I have been very happy and I have saved far more than I have paid in premiums.
Just remember to look at the fine print.....some companies give great quotes with low premiums but they pay nearly nothing back when you make a claim.....make sure they pay based on what you pay and not on what they use as their own pay scale.
A lot of better companies don't cover vaccinations, but they cover more when your pet is actually sick so you need to figure out what you want better coverage on.

Can You Rec Commend A Good Pet Insurance?

I am looking for really good coverage for under $50 a month I have a 2yr old st. bernard? I have looked into Banfield and AKC but am confused into which one is better or if there are more out there

Answer: My recommendation is.. Put the money you would pay..in a savings account.. for the dog.. for a large dog.. budget at least $1500 a year for vet expenses..

Pet insurance is a good idea..and works for some people.. but actually IS not a money saver for owners.. it does spread out some expenses.. so works for some people..
Keep in mind they only cover a percentage of the cost.. and you still have to pay the vet when services are rendered.. then submit and wait for the money back from them..
Because you still have to come up with the intial expenses.. and they do not cover 100% in most cases if you really want to get the most for your dollar.. just put aside that

I Have Some Questions About Pet Healthcare. What Do They Mean By Deductible?

I am thinking about joining AKC Pet Health Insurance. I am on a budget, but I am trying to give my 2 small dogs (a mini Poodle and a Pekingese) the healthcare they deserve.

I have no idea what I'm getting into and I don't really understand the "rules" of pet insurance! So, if you have any tips or recommendations for me, that would be nice. What would be a good plan to go with? What do they mean when they say "80% of the costs will be covered after deductible"? I have no idea...please help
-My Poodle is 5 years old, my Pekingese just turned 9 years old

Answer: Before your insurance benefits begin, you have to pay up front a certain amount (100 - 300 dollars) in the medical costs for the insured animal(s), then the insurance starts. Even if you've satisfied the deductible, however, you still have to pay the other 20% that the insurance doesn't pay. And you have to use a vet that accepts the insurance. It's still a good thing, and since you have older dogs, it could be a great benefit to you as they will probably have greater health problems as they get older.

Pet Insurance?

Hi. So my boyfriend purchased a 3 month old Pomeranian for me about 2 weeks ago. Now we're playing to buy my baby pet insurance. Does anybody know any good insurance companies? Or how this really works? Do they only cover emergency medical expenses or vet visits also?

My pomeranian is purebred (AKC registered - if that even matters) and has excellent health.
Now we're planning*
Sorry.

Answer: I know it is very confusing when shopping for pet insurance. There are too many information out there and cause a case of information overload.

No pet insurance are the same and you need to find one that tailors to your cat's need. You have to be careful when choosing because some insurance company place a low cap on their reimbursement even though you are paying for higher premiums. Some will have low deductibles but will not cover much illness or low coverage for accidents and diagnosis. Many insurance companies will not cover pre existing conditions.

I cannot recommend one that stood out from the rest because what my pet needs might be different from what you
