Prospective Employer Will Pay For Medical Insurance?

I have been offered a job in which I will not pay for medical insurance except copays with Oxford insurance. The salary is less than I was looking for, but was curious how much not paying for medical insurance would save me yearly. This does not include dental.
Thanks

Answer: It depends on the policy. As a guide, you can use the premiums for group health insurance sold to federal employees. The total premium (employer and employee portions combined) that will be charged in 2008 for Blue Cross, Blue Shield will be $1,027.95 per month for family coverage and $448.91 for a single person. If you are getting your insurance for free, this is the equivalent of $5.93 per hour for family coverage an $2.59 per hour for a single person. These rates also do not cover dental.

If you bought insurance on your own, the rates would vary by age. In a group that condition does not apply.

Can't Afford Medical Bill Although I Have Insurance?

I live in New York City.
I have Oxford through my job.
In June I passed out in the subway (too many people and too hot) and was sent to the ER. Because the ER I was sent to is not affiliated with my plan, my insurance will not pay for the bill. The hospital will not offer me any discount becuase I have health insurance.

My health insurance can help out a little, but I have a 1000$ deductable. So I am stuck paying for the deductable.

There were no services rendered in the ER. I waited for 3-5 hours and it was just so packed that I went to my regular doctor. I am being billed just for walking in.

I am thinking of canceling my health insurance

Answer: There is definately something wrong. First, ER visits are covered at 100% after your copay. You are supposed to go to the nearest Emergency Room if something happens that is considered an emergency. Passing out in a Subway would warrant the ER visit. Depending on your plan, the deductible shouldn't even come into play. I wouldn't cancel the insurance....look into the claim further. Without knowing exactly what plan you have, it's hard to give you specific advise. I am in NJ and familiar with NY plans. Some have in network deductibles but they normally don't apply to ER visits. What Options Do I Have Regarding Paying For A Hospital Bill I Can't Afford?

I was forced to admit myself to Englewood Hospital in Englewood, New Jersey on June 20, 2006 when a skin infection worsened to an extent that my doctor counseled me that I must admit myself for emergency care. I was released on June 23, 2006 on or about 6 P.M. My total cost for the hospital care came to $22,061.00.

At the time that I was admitted to the hospital, I did not have medical insurance coverage. I did not get coverage until after the time period to file was over. I am being sued by a law firm representing the hospital. Should Oxford be responsible for the bill or am I automatically subject to the fine print that stated the filing period for claims? Oxford tells me I'm

Answer: Contact the hospital, either the billing dept. or the social worker for the hospital to find out if you should have qualified for any public assistance or other programs or grants that assist people who do not have insurance.

In order to accept any payment arrangements, you will have to fill out a slew of paperwork indicating all assets, liabilities and income and based on that the hospital will advise you what amount they are willing to accept in monthly payments.

You may want to contact a bankruptcy attorney and review your situation to see if they recommend filing, depend on your other assets and liabilities.
