UK Travel Insurance/health Service?

I'm an Australian who'll be living in the UK for 12 months soon. Is the national health service available to me and if so, do I really need to get travel insurance for the entire period? I understand that it covers more than health - loss of luggage, stolen property etc - but perhaps I could get insurance for the duration of my travelling rather than my actual stay in England.

Any help about this is greatly appreciated!

Answer: If you will be legally living and working in this country, then you should be paying tax and national insurance on your earnings. If you do then you will be entitled to the use of the NHS, but if you don't then you will have to take out private health insurance. Because of the state that the NHS is in nowadays, many people here have taken out private health insurance, even though they still have to pay towards the NHS from their salary.

Then you should be ok, but check with your employer to be on the safe side.
 
 

Travel Insurance Due To Train Service Suspension Due To Earthquake?

I was on the train to the airport when the earthquake struck. Train services stopped; taxi lines grew. The flight took off but I was too late. I paid with American Express. Is there a website for their travel nsurance policy?

Answer: Why don't you call the 1-800 # on your cc? They should be able to help you.

Answer: Have you tried this travel insurance comparison page? All major travel insurance providers are good at settling claims. What you need to check is if they cover everything you need.

Answer: Travel insurance is just like car and home insurance. You might not need it but it is nice to have JUST IN CASE..try to check www.nowtravelforless.com for travel insurance.

Im going to china for a week and am looking for an insurance company that will offer insurance for my personal belongings, personal cash and medical. Can anyone advise me on which company offers these services?

Answer: You will find that the Post Office does great deals on Travel Insurance. I have an annual one which covers 2 people and it only cost £30. It is only basic cover we chose, but they do have other options to suit each individual. Give them a try.
