Is There Travel Insurance That Covers Vacation Injuries?
Question by snorkweezl | Posted in Health & Safety
My Dad wants to go skiing in Colorado and since skiing was always one of those things that he and I did together, he really wants me to go with him this year. I've never been skiing in Colorado and would really love to go with him, the only hitch in the whole thing is that I was laid off and I can't afford insurance. Dad has offered to pay for the trip, and since he's getting on a bit in years (and I'll likely never have this kind of flexibility in my schedule again) this may be one of the last opportunities we have to go on a vacation like this together. I would really like to go but I can't get past the potential for financial disaster if I get hurt. Does anyone know of a short-term insurance
Answer: Travel insurance will not cover your medical expenses in case of an injury. You can purchase short-term medical insurance (just google it).
My Parents Would Like To Travel To US From The UK For A Vacation - Health Insurance Question!?
Question by shelly | Posted in Other - United Kingdom
Both my parents have medical issues but would like to travel from UK to US to visit me. They want to take out health insurance in the event anything were to happen but they are worried it won't be valid due to pre-existing medical issues. Any suggestions as to who to take insurance out with and where they would stand with regards to doctor visits or hospital visits if for example- heart problems or blood clots occurred and they already have disorders that may possibly cause them.
Answer: US Health Insurance is, as you will know, very particular about existing medical conditions.
However, be assured that if something happens whilst you're over here in the UK, and you need to get to a hospital, the NHS means that all care is free. From the moment you enter the Emergency Dept, to the moment you leave the ward and go home, it's free.
Your family wouldn't be able to see a GP as they'd need to be registered, but if the times of minor ailments, they can ring NHS Direct for free advice from medical professionals on 0845 4647.
I am thinking of getting travel insurance for my vacation. I heard about Columbus travel insurance but not sure if they are a good company to buy from?
Answer: First, check with your credit card to see if they offer travel insurance at no cost to you.
If you have MasterCard credit or debit card, the benefits are somewhat spelled out at http://www.mastercard.com/us/personal/en /cardholderservices/guidetobenefits/inde x.html. Call the number to find out what specific extra benefits your bank may have.
If they don't offer an insurance you like or need, get a copy of the policy from Columbus and read it over in detail to make sure it offers what you want.

Do I Need A Travel Insurance When I Go To Australia For A Vacation?
Question by toothfairy_12 | Posted in Other - Australia
Answer: Always a good idea. Most travel insurance not only covers medical and dental emergencies but it also covers lost luggage, costs for delays such as missed flights and offers assistance/resources if your in a foreign country and something goes wrong. Some employer packages have very basic coverage but most do not. Shop around for cost as it will vary from place to place. Many credit card companies have travel insurance as an add on option so check the costs there as well as at your bank, AAA, travel agent and your insurance company If you plan on traveling out of province or country again this year you may want to look at an annual as that can work out to be much cheaper and many things are not
