Can My Employer Legally Switch Health Insurance Without Notifying Me Or Getting My Signature? N.Carolina?

I work in Charlotte, NC. I have been on one insurance plan for the past year. It was our annual enrollment period during the month of May. I get a new insurance provider card in the mail this past weekend on June 9th that says it's effective since June 1st.....yet I've been given no notice by my employer of the switch, nor have I been asked to sign anything or given the option to review the plan or make changes to my coverage. I haven't even received a booklet with the new coverage data. Neither has any other employee here!

Is there a law protecting my rights for this?
Where can I find information or who can I contact?

Answer: Your employer is the policy owner and can make changes to the plan, change carriers or cancel the coverage anytime they wish. Employees are "covered members" who are not named individually on the policy and so employee approval is not needed for changes. It's in your employer's best interest to continue the coverage and not reduce it, so they can attract and retain their employees - but it's not a requirement.

Having said that, it's typical for employers to announce changes to employees, outline cost and benefit changes for the coming plan year and to provide plan documents withing a reasonable time. Check with your benefits department to find out when plan information

Free Prenatal Care Or Maternity Insurance In Charlotte, NC?

I'm working temp-to-permanent position so no benefits are offered, and now I'm pregnant, I still have not seen a doctor yet, and I will be 11 weeks on Thursday. I live here in Charlotte, NC new to the city and NC Medicaid the had the nerve to say It looks like you make to much money when I went to apply for Medicaid, and I really don't make that much at all. The Medicaid application in NC takes 45 days to process, I'm still waiting to hear back to see if I have been approved or denied, I initially applied on 01/14/2010. I pray every night that I have been approved so that way I will have some re-assurance of health care, but its sad in our country people who work everyday don't have insurance,

Answer: Hey there. I live in Salisbury about 30 minutes from you. I applied for pregnancy medicaid and got it. My husband works full time and I have income but they still approved me. From what I understand no matter what income you have you are suspposed to be approved if you are pregnant. It only took my dss office a week or two to send my card. As far as free prenatal care there are so many resourses in Charlotte im sure you can find some where to go to. You can even come to salisbury if you dont mind the drive and go to the pregnancy support center.

Full-time College Student, Where And How Can I Get Some Kind Of Free Health Care?

I am a colleg student. I don't have any kind of health care insurance. I cannot afford to buy health care for me. Is there any kind of health care I can get from that state? BTW, I live in Charlotte, NC. Would like to know if I can get some kind of coverage.

Answer: As David mentioned, you could still qualify as a dependent and get health insurance from your parent's insurance.

If that's not an option, schools often provide affordable student insurance. At my college, there's two options: A basic plan that covers injuries, illnesses and a few doctor visits and another plan that's regular insurance. Option one costs about $600 per year. Option two costs around $1100 per year. The deductible is significantly less than private insurance.

If you have trouble affording this price, fill out the FAFSA. You may qualify for state and federal grants. You may also qualify for work study, which will give you valuable job experience and

How Do I Begin A Health Insurance Lawsuit?

Unfortunately my mother has only Medicare and Medicaid. We live in Connecticut. She was recently injured and after the necessary hospital care was released to a rehab/nursing home facility. Due to the "Insurance Kick Out" too soon, mom was re-injured VERY seriously.
First of all, we want to involve Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, Connecticut because they have a history of lazy, cheap, quick care which results in either misdiagnosis or under-diagnosis causing major future issues. Our issues with her insurance are:

* Kicking her out of the 1st hospital too soon.
* Kicking her out of the rehab facility before she was apparently

Answer: You need to find an attorney in Connecticut and talk to him about this problem. Only an attorney who is licensed to practice law in Connecticut can help you the way you need to be helped. Seriously, when you're talking about suing Medicare and Medicaid and a hospital and you have issues of negligence and malpractice and breach of contract, then hiring a lawyer is the only way to go.

Good luck in your pursuit of equity!

Independent Women's Forum - "Zero Tolerance" for Dissent

But how can you cover millions more people without having rates go up. Secretary Sebelius seems to follow the magic wand theory: you really, really want to do something, so you wave a magic wand and it's done. So that government and "some" industry and academic experts think the new law will justify increases averaging 1 percent or 2 percent, they could justify much larger increases for certain plans. As Time magazine's Karen Pickert points out, Sebelius ignores the fact that individual insurance plans cover different types of populations. That gem was included in a letter she wrote to insurers. We all want more Americans to....
