Would I Have A Valid Complaint Against My Home Insurance Provider?

I had a call from my lettings agent stating I had a burst pipe in my rental property. I have a home emergency insurance which pays £150 towards call out and repair of the problem. I called the 24 hour claims line and after almost 1 hour the call had not been answered. Fearing damage caused by the delay I instructed a local repair man to visit the property. After doing this via my mobile I finally got through to the helpline and was informed as I did not wait for one of their approved repairers I would not be covered for any of the cost. I appreciate in normal circumstances I should wait but if you have a burst pipe and no one answering the phone I was forced into this action. Do you think

Answer: I think you have a very strong case. By definition calls to an "emergency" line are urgent, so to leave them unanswered for an hour is unforgiveable. It makes no difference that the insurer has probably been very busy recently. If they offer a service they have to make it available.

Having tried for an hour it would be perfectly reasonable for you to then make your own arrangements. As they are only offering the first £150 of the cost, your choice of tradesman will not affect the cost to the insurer, so their insistence on an approved list is not reasonable. Especially as the longer you waited the more you were likely to have to pay in total.

How Do I Calculate My Take-home Pay After Emergency Tax And National Insurance Are Deducted From Salary In UK?

I am terrible with math, so could someone please provide a formula for me to calculate how much pay I will be receiving after I am taxed at the emergency tax code and National Insurance has been deducted.

My salary is £20,387.

Thank you in advance.

I just moved to the UK and I am trying to figure out my finances as I am scared that my rent might me too high. No one at work has given any answers, and I have been told to just wait until my pay arrives in a few weeks.

My employer is going to fast track an application for National Insurance number. According to them, that will mean that my tax will be lower, as I will no longer be at emergency

Answer: The emergency code has been put up to 603L as from today. Therefore the first £6035 you can earn without tax.

£20387 - 6035 = £14352

Tax £14352 x 20% = £2870.40

NI 20387-5460 = 14297 x 11% = £1641.97

Net annual pay (20387-2870.40-1641.97) = £15874

Net monthly pay = £1322

Homecare/Home Emergency Confusion!?

Hi,
I am very confused as to what cover I need. I had a BG homecare policy which covered electrics and plumbing , but also found that my home insurance and buildings insurance also included a "home emergancy" policy, with heating being additional and no annual service. I decided to cancel BG having had problems in the past with them but now am worried about what i need exactly. Is it enough to have the home emergency and then to pay for an annual service or is BG actually worth having? Totally confused by it all!!! Thanks.

Answer: i used to work for BG now i work for homeserve, most home insurance companies use homeserve contractors you only need to get your boiler serviced by a gas safe plumber every 12 months, its a very similar contract hope this helps

What Deductible Should I Get On My Home Insurance? ?

My friend says I should get a 2500.00 deductible and only use it for emergencies. He said if I get a small deductible and use it for non emergency stuff that my premiums would go up alot. He says he saves that extra money in premiums in case he ever gets something small to fix and that in the last ten years he has never had anything happen. I just worry that I might have something happen. I hate insurance and think it's a rip off for most people.

Answer: I used to sell home and auto insurance and while I am not a fan of paying for something that is intangible... I remember being able to say... it's covered and knowing how much relief that brought to people. Here is how I tried to determine a deductible. Ask yourself what kinds of things can happen to your home. Tornado's or fires, floods, wind damage... Now, how much cash do you have easily accessible? Do you have a savings account with $2,500.00 in it? If your home were damaged by fire would you be able to put that money forward towards the damage? For the smaller types of damage you can often have a glass deductible for instance... if a window is broken, you might pay, say, 50.00 of

What Happens If You Spend A Home Property Insurance Claim On Something Other Than The Repair?

We had a claim on our property from gutters and fascia falling in January from an icestorm. We ended up having an emergency and used the claim money for something else and did not do the repairs.... can we get in trouble for that?
We definitely won't claim it again and hopefully come up with the money to fix it soon.... just freaking out because the insurance company called today to see if we have fixed it yet.

Answer: Not usually. They give you the money for the repairs and you can use it however you wish, just don't try to claim the same thing again. This is not insurance fraud.
