Royal & Sun Alliance bid brings talk of Aviva break-up | Business
One plan being mooted today had RSA taking Aviva's general arm, while Clive Cowdery 's Resolution picks up the life insurance business. The tantalising prospect that Aviva could be broken up and sold off arose today, when it emerged that RSA has made an informal bid for the company's general insurance arm. A letter from RSA chairman John Napier to his opposite number at Aviva, Lord Sharman, proposed a merger of the two firms' motor and home insurance arms.
