Does Every Driver In The Household Need To Be Registered Under The Automobile Insurance Policy (Ontario)? |
I talked to my insurance broker, and she said that every person in my household that will be driving my car needs to be registered as a secondary driver, otherwise they must sign that they will never be driving the car and insurance will be void if they did (she mentioned that it is section 28A if I remember correctly). I have never heard of such ridiculous policy - which adds a $1000 per year on my premium. Was she just trying to bump up the cost of the policy, or is there really such a law in Ontario?
| Answer: Most insurance companies do require that residents of the named insureds household be named as drivers on the policy or be named on a driver exclusion form. So she's not trying to bump up the cost of the policy. She's just having you do whats required by the insurance company. It's a common practice in insurance. |
