PET INSURANCE...need Info On Good Or Bad Experiences With Pet Health Insurance For My 8yo Dog-Opinions/Advice?
Question by chicksinger | Posted in Other - Pets
Looks like it costs about $30-40ish/mo for my 8yo Australian Cattledog. He's in great health, but dont want any surprise $5k+ bills if he gets hit by car(he IS normally leashed)or otherwise injured.I'm worried about spider bites, snake bites, coyotes, etc. We live in the mountains in AZ,so lots of creatures 2 come in contact with.I've hit a few sites for pet insurance(the ASPCA offers a policy now too)and they all give sales-pitch-here's-why-u-don't-want-the-other-company lists...therefore,very confusing.Altho I'd love a "pay for all/no yrly limits" policy if there was one, realistically hoping to find Catastrophic Coverage especially if it's cheaper per month(again,my main concern is to
Answer: I have VPI which is Veterinary Pet Insurance, I've had this for about 2 years now. Its good and does pay in a reasonable amount of time, but watch the exclusions for previous conditions or congenital problems. Overall I've been pleased with the company, customer service is excellent and they really try to help when you have a problem. My 2 year old German Shepherd got into a batch of pills for my other dog and ate roughly 15- 20 pills, long story short she survived but the bills totaled $2800. VPI reimbursed us for 1/2. Which is pretty standard after the per incident deductable.
Best advice is do your homework, see what policy best fits your needs and ask lots of questions. I've had
What Pet Health Insurance Is Best And Is It Worth It I Have A 7mth Old Puppy And A 8yr Old Dog?
Question by suzie B | Posted in Dogs
the puppy has not been spayed yet and i was wondering if i didn;t get them a health plan where would i go to get them there shots each year for low cost?
Answer: I have VPI for both of my dogs. My vet recommended it after my 9 mo puppy got into some medication a week after I adopted her. Vets do not get paid anything by the insurance companies, so he has no reason to push it. Also a coworker of mine had a sister who was a vet. My coworker also had insurance and her sister also recommended it. I pay $25/month for each. If I did the savings account route, I better pray nothing happens to them while I'm trying to save up. With the insurance if something happens, and I have to pay $2500 (which is a cheap number depending on what's wrong) for surgery I don't have to worry about whether I have enough in my savings account. BTW at $25/month into a savings account
Pet Health Insurance For My Dog? Good Idea? And What Should I Get?
Question by ~♥_♥~ | Posted in Dogs
I am thinking about putting my 6 month old Pomeranian puppy on Pet Insurance. I have been looking at VPI Insurance and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with them and what they think of it.
Also, if you have pet insurance, which pet insurance do you have and are you happy with it? Which pet insurance would you recommend?
Keep in mind I am not willing to pay more than $40 monthly for the insurance.
Just so you know, I do not allow my dog people food of any kind. He doesn't eat wet food either. Plus, I plan on starting to brush his teeth at least once a week now that his adult teeth have for the most part come in.
Answer: You should check out www.petinsurancereview.com which is a third party rating site of most of the pet insurance companies. I have heard lots of things about VPI, some good, some bad, but the bad reviews are pretty extreme, so take caution.
With any insurance company, I would suggest to skip on the "routine care" coverage (shots and check-ups) because you'll pay more through the middle-man than if you were to pay it yourself. Insurance companies have to charge you more for this care to make it worth it for the company.
The best type of insurance plan is one that covers (almost) all types of accidents and illnesses. It's good that you're looking into insurance
What Are People's Experiences With Pet Health Insurance?
Question by Leland Beas | Posted in Insurance
ASPCA sponsors one and there are other companies as well. We'd like to know how successful--or unsuccessful--buying health insurance to cover your dog's health has been.
Answer: ...at the time I was considering it, it wasn't available for pets older than eight years. Since at that time all of my animals were over that age tghat made it an easy decision. That has changed, but there are still a lot of exclusions. For example, VPI excludes hip displasia and a number of breed-specific illnesses. For a Shar-Pei for example, this includes Amyloidosis, Lens luxation, Synovitis, Shar-Pei fever, and Mucinosis, and for Chows, Dermatomyositis, Myotonia, Sebaceous adenitis, and Seborrhea (very common here in south Texas).
Other excluded conditions include:
Elective and cosmetic procedures
Expression or removal of anal glands or anal sacculitis
