This insurance is employee participated...the cost of the insurance is paid for by the employee. How long after termination are you covered by the insurance you pay for?

Full-time associates, working in Virginia, who elect to participate in our health plan have various options, including PPO and HMO options. We offer competitively priced co-pays and a variety of prescription plan options, too. Additionally, GEICO continues to pay a significant portion of our associates’ health premiums.

How Much Is Fair For Employee Health Insurance Contribution?

My company used-to pay 100% of employee and family health premium. Now, they're asking the employees to contribute, $125/mo for employee, $400/mo for employee+family. They're giving a 1 month notice. Is this fair? Thanks!


Answer: That's totally fair - in fact, dirt cheap! (My insurance is $400 a month just for ME. Many family plans are in the neighborhood of twice that.) Most companies do ask for employee contribution - some have the employee pay it all. In today's world, it's VERY rare to not have employees contribute something.

I am trying to hire an employee for the first time and I want to know what I need to provide for them. It's a small company and hiring just 1 employee. I heard that it's mandatory for employer to provide health insurance for employee in ny. How many benefits do I need to provide for them and what are the steps i need to take to hire an sales person by law?


Answer: It's a policy decision YOU have to make - pay the person more or subsidize his medical costs. You "company" is not large enough to be covered by any Federal or State laws in this regard.
